J. Paynter presented a scorpion from Table Mountain to the South African Museum, Cape Town, in 1896, followed the next year by scorpions, spiders and some myriapods from Cape Town and vicinity. In 1903 J.H. Paynter presented the museum with fossils from the Bokkeveld Group at De Doorns, Western Cape, and in 1904 with many beetles of the family Buprestidae, from Touws River.
