A. J. Andrews published two papers relating to South African geology. The first, a short note on "Discovery of fossil beds at the Witkopje Pan", appeared in the Transactions of the Geological Society of South Africa (Vol. 3, p. 146) in 1898. It dealt with a fossiliferous deposit, probably of Triassic age, found on the farm Witkopje near Johannesburg. The second, "South African coals and their economics", was read at a meeting of the Chemical, Metallurgical and Mining Society of South Africa in April 1908, and published in its Journal (Vol. 9, pp. 330-333).

Andrews joined the Geological Society of South Africa in or just before 1899, when living in Germiston. He was still a member and still living in Germiston in 1919.
