J. E. Anderson published four short articles on the gold fields of Mpumalanga in an obscure publication, Pilgrims Rest Goldfields. Mines and Claimholders Quarterly, published by the Mines and Claimholders Association, Pilgrims Rest, from 1915 to 1917. The titles are: "Reef Horizon. I. The Language Reef" (Vol. 1(1), pp. 26-27); "Reef Horizon. II. The Dientje Reef" (Vol. 1(2), pp. 27-28); "The Devil's Kantoor" (Vol. 1(3), pp. 28-30); and "The strata of the Pilgrims Rest Goldfields" (Vol. 1(4), pp. 4-8). The third of these deals with the gold diggings at "Duiwelskantoor", near the present day hamlet Kaapsehoop, where gold was discovered in 1882. The title of the publication was changed to Mines and Claimholders Journal in Volume 1(4), 1917. At some time Anderson was the chairman of the Mines and Claimholders Association.
One further publication by Anderson is known: "Impressions of the Lichtenburg diamond fields", in the South African Mining and Engineering Journal (1927, No. 1858, pp. 259-260).
