Butters, Mr John Thomas (botany)

Born: 1856, Claxby, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.
Died: 11 April 1933, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Active in: SA.

John Thomas Butters of St. George's Park, Port Elizabeth, was elected a member of the Eastern Province Naturalists Society (1882-1923) in December 1889. In 1891 he served as curator of the society's herbarium. From 1892 to 1904 or later he was employed as superintendent of parks and gardens in Port Elizabeth. His interests may have extended beyond botany, as he donated a garter snake to the Port Elizabeth Museum in 1899.
