Dr Eric Hartwig Weiskopf (PhD), analytical and technical chemist and Fellow of the (British) Chemical Society, was the son of Paul Hermann Weiskopf and his wife Anna Mathilde Thecla, born Barchwitz. He was employed as chief laboratory chemist by the British South Africa Explosive Company at its dynamite factory at Modderfontein, Transvaal Colony, from 1902 to at least 1910. He became a member of the Chemical, Metallurgical and Mining Society of South Africa in 1902 and contributed the following papers at its meetings: "An improved washbottle for quantitative work" (August 1902, Proceedings, Vol. 3, pp. 66-68); "The theory of misfires and some conclusions of practical value" (November 1902, Proceedings, Vol. 3, pp. 196-209); and "The estimation of carbon monoxide in mine gas" (February 1909, Journal, Vol. 9, pp. 258-275). He was also an early member of the South African Association for the Advancement of Science and at the Association's second annual meeting, held in Johannesburg in 1904, contributed a paper on "The contact process of sulphuric acid manufacture". The paper was published in the Association's Report for 1904 (pp. 97-109). In 1915 E.H. Weiskopf, presumably him, collaborated with several other authors in the publications of two papers on the analysis of gasses in the Zeitschrift für Analitische Chemie.

Weiskopf became a naturalized British subject in 1903 and in September 1914 changed his name to Eric Hartwig Whytehead. At that time he resided in London. He was survived by his wife Hermione Violet, born Haagner, and a daughter.
