Herbert Arthur Tinson, also known as Hubert Arthur Tinson, contributed several papers to the Transactions of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers: 'Illumination and some of its fundamental considerations' (1918), 'Notes on the application of electricity to domestic services' (with J.H. Dobson* and R.H. Gould*, 1919), 'Street illumination' (1927), and 'The rating of incandescent lamps and their accessories' (1928).

Tinson was married to Maud Ada Curtis, who died in 1959.
