R. Pattison of Clanwilliam collected arachnida and other invertebrates in various places around Clanwilliam during 1897 and 1898, in the company of C. F. Louis Leipoldt*. Their specimens were presented to Dr L.A. Péringuey* at the South African Museum, Cape Town, who named a new species of scorpion after them in 1897.
The collector was Robert John Stephen Pattison, son of Charles Benjamin Pattison and his wife Catherine Johanna Lindenberg. He was married in June 1900 to Louise Frances Caroline Leipoldt*, sister of C. F. Louis Leipoldt, who was a collector herself before her marriage.
