R. Pattison of Clanwilliam collected arachnida and other invertebrates in various places around Clanwilliam during 1897 and 1898, in the company of C.L. Leipoldt*. Their specimens were presented to Dr L.A. PĂ©ringuey* at the South African Museum, Cape Town, who named a new species of scorpion after them in 1897.
