Hargreaves, Mr Lionel (butterfly collection)

Died: 1924, South Africa.

Lionel Hargreaves, also known as Herbert Edward Lockhart or Herbert Edward Hargreaves, was married to Dorothy Blanche Hargreaves, born Boggs. In 1917 they lived at Krantzkloof (now Kloof, near Pinetown) in Natal and that year both became foundation members of the South African Biological Society. Both were interested in entomology and Lionel wished to exchange species of KwaZulu-Natal for those from the Transvaal and Cape Province. Lionel collected mainly butterflies. Most of his collection was bought by A.J.T. Janse*. Some of his specimens are now in the Ditsong National Museum of Natural History, Pretoria. Dorothy died in 1966.
