Maidment, Mr Charles (geology)

Born: September 1858, London, United Kingdom.
Died: 16 June 1934, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Charles Maidment, geological surveyor, produced The first published geological map of Zoutpansberg, showing its great gold belt and defining parts of the gold country hitherto unknown... Compiled from original notes and observations recently made... (Johannesburg, 1889), on a scale of five miles to the inch (1:316 800). The next year he compiled The first published geological map of the goldfields, Witwatersrand, South Africa, accompanied by a 12 page pamphlet, The geology of the Witwatersrand (Cape Town, 1890). He was a member of the Geological Society of South Africa by 1897, but his membership ended soon thereafter.

Maidment was married to Louise Maidment, born Gerlach, but they had no surviving children.
