Gideon Joubert, a farmer with a keen interest in plants, lived on the farm Knapdaar in the Burgersdorp district of the Eastern Cape from 1918. He collected a number of particularly interesting fungi in the Burgersdorp district and at Matatiele in the Transkei during the years 1916-1936. His specimens are in the National Collection of Fungi of the Plant Protection Research Institute in Pretoria.
