Crossley, Mrs Alice (shell collection)

Born: Date not known, Place not known.
Died: Date not known, Place not known.
Active in: SA.

Mrs Alice Crossley collected land snails at Pietermaritzburg before 1893. The snail Gulella crossleyana was named after her by J.C. Melvill and J.H. Ponsonby* in 1893, but is now regarded as a form of Gulella gouldi. However, the marine mollusc Calliostoma crossleyae, an uncommon Natal species named after her by E.A. Smith in 1910, still carries her name.
